“the kids are alright”: a week in review
Monday (3/25/24)
it’s a half day at school and, wow. it’s amazing how we can all get along so great knowing we’re only in forced proximity for just three hours. it’s glorious.
i love it here.
Tuesday (3/26/24)
return of the rat. i was up making coffee at 4:45 a.m. and life turned into an absolute nightmare when a damn rodent launched itself out of the cat food bag and slipped, slided and bounced off a wall before disappearing through the cat cut out and into the basement.
oh, the screams i scrumpt. and then i went upstairs to drink my coffee.
i hate it here.
Wednesday (3/27/24)
more coffee and rats. but with a happier ending. traps were set the night before and THIS time, coffee time had a better ending. for me, at least. not the rat. checked the trap and his midnight run was a bad one. RIP ratty.
i love it here.
Thursday (3/28/24)
son of a bitch. riley woke up with a fever and her sister work up with revenge on her mind, apparently. while scooting off the top bunk, kenny managed to go full “stepbrothers” and made a mattress sammich out of her little sister who was mostly unconscious thanks to whatever virus she picked up from the middle school petri dish. the bunk bed disintegrated into a pile of wood splinters and bed slats and we’ll just add it to the list of broken things on earl street.
i hate it here.
Friday (3/29/24)
it’s friday and all i have to do is watch movies with my classes and i’m riding a wave of optimism and thinking…the kids are alright. the world’s burning and they’re holding (some of) the matches, but i’m still convinced…the kids are alright.
i love it here.
